Nurse Practitioners Can Prescribe Narcotics

On Friday, March 11th, the Florida legislature passed HB/SB 423 which gives advanced registered nurse practitioners (ARNPs) and physician assistants (PAs) the ability to prescribe DEA regulated medications. The bill goes into effect on July 1, 2016. Florida was the last state where a nurse practitioner could not obtain a DEA license or prescribe controlled substances.
